Another post of philatelic covers in our collection.

This cover is interesting to me for several reasons, for one it is the show cover for the Indypex stamp show. Indypex is an annual stamp show held in Indianapolis each October. Indypex is an accredited World Series of Philately show. This cover commemorates the first known use of postage stamps in America and it was on a letter to Indianapolis! This show cover also is franked with the 18 cent "Sea to Shining Sea" stamp. This is a coil stamp having been produced to be used in stamp vending machines. My collecting in this area is to collect the stamps from these coils that have a number printed at the bottom indicating what plate was used for printing, these stamps are called Plate Number Coils. So, a cover from Indypex, franked with a PNC and a cachet showing the first known use of stamps in America.

Another Cover from Our Collection.

This cover was one I acquired in the 1990's. I bought this at one of the Indypex sometime in the 1990's. This is a censored First Day Cover of Cuban stamps warning of "Fifth Columnists". Fantastic piece of history before communist Castro.

Here is an interesting postcard mailed from Cyprus showing the S.S. Arabic, one of the ships of the Red Star Line. Avra and I both loved the artist's rendition of her plus Cyprus matches well our collecting of everything Greek. I posted one picture of the back if you want to attempt to read the note.

More favorite covers from the collection.

This cover is from Calliope's collection. It is a first day cover of of the 1938 Royal Wedding stamps. It is franked with the middle value , (3 drachma) , of the set of three stamps commemorating the wedding of Prince Paul to Princess Frederika Louise of Hannover. I think this cover is "extra" special by being created on stationary from the King George Hotel in Athens.

Some of my favorite covers in our collection.

I'm listing and writing about these covers in no particular order. These covers are from my previous collection when I started collecting in the 90"s and also from my wife's grandparents collection. Some are covers aquired after the two collections merged.
This first cover is from Calliope's collection and is a cover canceled at the 1936 Olympics. This was the Oylimpics in Berlin and opened officially by Chancellor Adolf Hitler.

Greek Airmail Stamps of 1935

Here are my current used copies from this set. I will hope to get better copies in time but I’m posting these just to show the fine artwork of the engravings. I really enjoy this set and five of the stamps of this stamp were re-engraved and issued from 1937-39. Click on Images to Enlarge.
